It is located on the Nilgiri Hill and is considered to be the second largest hill stations here. It is well known for its tea plantation which attracts the tourist. It is famous for the wide variety of birds and flowers that are grown here. The lush green tea plants, the cool climate, the valleys and the waterfalls add to the beauty of Coonoor. Coonoor is on the toy train ride from Mettupalayam to Ooty this ride is the most exiting one.
Places of Interest:
Sim’s Park:
This botanical garden which covers an area of 12 hectares of land is one of the main tourist attractions in Coonoor. The park got its name after J. D. Sim the former secretary of the Madras Club. The park is partly developed in the Japanese Style with the collection of wide range of plant species. The famous among them are the pines, tree ferns, camellia, etc. The annual flower show that is conducted here adds to the beauty and attraction of this place.
Pomological Station:
It is one of the three experimental fruit gardens and the research centre for State Agricultural Department of persimmon, pomegranate and apricot. They do research on different fruits which are locally grown here. Some of the popularly grown fruits are apples, plums, peaches, apricots, lemons, etc. The other two agricultural research centers are in Burliar and Kallar.

The Pasteur Institute:
It is an important institute which does research for vaccines for rabies and polio. It is located near Sim’s Park and is one of the main tourist attractions of Coonoor. The visitors are allowed to enter the institute only on Saturday’s however a person with prior permission from the Director of the institute can visit the institute even on the other days.
Dolphin Nose:
It is one of the tourist attraction in Coonoor which is located few kms away from Coonoor. One can get the beautiful view of the Catherine Falls and the entire city from this point.
