It is one of the famous hill stations in West Bengal. The word Darjeeling means the ‘Land of thunderbolt’. The unique climate, rainfall, the soil helps Darjeeling to produces the world’s best tea. The first tea gardens that were started in Darjeeling was in Makaibari and Alubari. The tea gardens and the cool climate at Darjeeling attract the travelers.

The Observatory hill:
It is well known for the beautiful view of the city. It is also of great importance to the Hindus and the Buddhists due to the temple complex which is situated here.
Buddhist Monasteries:
There are a lot of Buddhist monasteries at Darjeeling and the most popular one is the Yiga Cholling Monastery which enshrines the image of ‘the coming Buddha’ or the ‘Maitriya Buddha’. The biggest monastery here is the Drukpa Kargyud Monastery which is also called as Dali Monastery and is located just 5 kms from the town of Darjeeling.
Lloyds Botanical Garden:
The 40 acres of hillside land which was gifted by Mr. W. Lloyd is now called as the Lloyds Botanical Garden. There is a wide range of plants and flowers which are grown here. The most famous among them are the magnolia, orchids and rhododendron. The glass house at the garden is filled with alpine flowers and medicinal plants.

Natural History Museum:
This museum lies close by to the Mall. The museum has a unique collection of the fauna of the eastern Himalayas.
Tiger Hill:
It is just 15 kms away from Darjeeling and is situated at a height of 2500 mts. The view of the sunset amidst the Himalayan ranges is considered to be a memorable one. One can get a view of Mount Everest and the Kanchenjunga range. One can also get the beautiful view of the city from this point.
