It is a hill station with great variations in altitudes, temperature and character, making it as one of the famous tourist places. Dharamashala is a beautiful and peaceful town, spread at different levels and surrounded by forests of pine. The massive snow capped peaks of the Dhauladhars rise like giant waves of a frozen ocean, providing the town with a breathtaking view. A giant prayer wheel ornaments the main street and in the monastery, a serene statue of the Lord Buddha presides over the gentle chanting of the monks. Dalai Lama resides in Macleodganj, and hence has turned Dharmashala into the Buddhist Capital of the world. It has the School of Tibetan Studies with rare manuscripts and ancient texts, the Tibetan Institute for the Performing Arts and Handicrafts Centre. A visit to the State Museum is a must see for tourist interested in Kangra Paintings.
Places of Interest:
Dal Lake:
It is one of the main tourist attractions in Dharmashala. It is just a few kms drive.
It is set amidst hills and stately fir trees.
Dehra Gopipur:
Dehra Gopipur is situated on the banks of the Beas. It is the best place to enjoy fishing. It is also one of the tourist destinations here.

Chamunda Devi:
It is one of the famous temples in Dharmashala which is dedicated to goddess Chamunda Devi. This temple is situated in the village of Dadh and one can view the Dhauladhar on 3 sides.
Trilokpur:
It is well known for the natural cave temples and it contains stalactite and stalagmite which hang from the roof of the caves. The temple is dedicated to lord Shiva.
Lord Eligin’s Memorial:
The church was built in the memory of Lord Eligin, the Scottish working peer and eighth viceroy. Before the death of Lord Eligin he gave instructions saying that his body needs to be buried in the Church of St. John.
