It was earlier called as Madras and is the fourth largest city in India. Chennai was earlier a popular trading centre for spices and clothes for more than 2000 years. Chennai is the capital city of Tamil Nadu. Despite the strong British influence, Chennai has retained its traditional Tamil Hindu culture and effectively blended it with the foreign influence. Compared to the metropolitan cities in India Chennai is less polluted and congested. It is a journey into timeless India, rich in the treasures of history, from temples and shrines to forts and palaces, the landscape of the past lives easily with the present. Retaining much of its traditional charm, this 350 year old city is truly the gateway to the south.
Places of Interest:
Marina Beach: This is the second longest beach in Asia and the longest beach in Chennai. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Chennai; one can find good number of people visiting the beach during the weekend.
St. George Fort: It was built by the British East India Company in the year 1653, which is at present used as State secretariat. It has a museum and St. Mary’s Church – the first British Church of Chennai.
Parthasarathy Temple: It is one of the oldest temples in Chennai and is dedicated to Lord Krishna.
Snake Park: It is situated adjacent to the children’s park, housing a wide variety of reptile ranging from deadly king cobra, Banded Krait to alligators. It is well maintained with generous enclosures and the snake park attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world.

Anna Zoological Park: It is a manmade zoological park which is created out of reserve forests of Vandalur. This zoological is said to be one of the biggest park in South East Asia.
