Madurai the Land of Temples, is located in Tamil Nadu, South India. It is the second largest city in Tamil Nadu which is well known for its temples particularly the Meenakshi Amman Temple which is situated on the banks of river Vaigai. Madurai has a rich cultural heritage which is been inherited from the great Tamil Era, which is more than 2500 years old.
Madurai is a well-known producer of some of the finest textiles in India and some of the best harvest of Jasmine flowers. Madurai is a city which is as old as its history, which dates back to the Sangam period.
Places of Interest:
Meenakshi Amman Temple: The main deities of this temple are Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Shiva. This temple is one of the main attractions in Madurai. There nearly 985 beautifully sculptured pillars forming the thousand pillar Mandapam Hall. The temple is located at the heart of the city. The original temple was built by Kulasekara Pandya however the entire credit for what the temple is today goes to Tirumalai Nayak.
Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam: This is the other main attraction in Madurai and this temple is dedicated to Lord Vigneshwara. The Mandapam in the centre has an idol of Lord Vigneshwara. This temple tank is fed by the water brought from the Vaigai through an ingenious system of underground channel.

Koodal Azhagar Temple: It is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Different postures of the lord Vishnu like sitting, standing and reclining postures one above the other is found in this temple.
The Gandhi Museum: This museum is one of the rare living memorials of ‘The father of India’ and has an historical account of India’s struggle for independence.
Annamalai and Nagamalai: They are two striking rock formations and is home to ascetics of the Jain and Hindu Faiths. The sages, reclusive philosophers and savants, were responsible for the development of the Tamil Language, Madurai, the cradle of Tamil Literature,
