It is a ‘City of Lakes’ and is one of the most romantic and beautiful cities of India. The white marble palaces, placid blue lakes, gardens and temples surrounded by hills and mountains make it one of the famous tourist destinations. The most striking landmarks of the city are the City Palace and the Lake Palace. The City Palace is the largest palace complex of Rajasthan; the enormous white structure stands majestically overlooking the Pichola Lake and is surrounded by crenellated walls.
Places of Interest:
Bagore Ki Haveli: It is situated on the banks of Lake Pichola and incorporating the majestic Gangaur Ghat, this haveli was built in the second half of the 18th century by the then Prime Minister of Mewar.
Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal: A museum of flok arts, it displays a rich collection of flok dresses, ornaments, puppets, masks, dolls, folk musical instruments and paintings. It has a section devoted to tribal art.
City Palace: It is the largest palace complex in Rajasthan, construction of which was started by Udai Singh. The white marble architectural marvel, standing majestically on a hill is surrounded by crenellated wall. The entrance to the palace is through ‘Hathi Pol’ – the Elephant Gate.
Fateh Sagar (Lake): This fine lake, lying to the north of and is connected by a small canal with Lake Pichola, was originally built by maharaja Jai Singh. Due to heavy rain the old dam was washed away and the present embarkment was constructed by Maharana Fateh Singh.
Gulab Bagh: The rose garden, laid out by Maharana Sajjan Singh, is situated near the palace.
Jag Mandir: This is the oldest water palace built by Rana Jagat Singh I. It is also the place where the European families were sheltered
Jag Niwas or Lake Palace: It is popularly known as the Lake Palace and is regarded as one of the most beautiful palaces in the world, and the mere sight of this white wonder rising from the turquoise waters of Lake Pichola is dream-like. It is been called as ‘one of the most romantic creations of man’.

Saheliyaon Ki Bari: It is also known as Garden of the Maids of Honour which was laid out for a group of forty-eight young women attendants who accompanied a princess to Udaipur as a part of her dowry.
Sajjan Garh: Originally an astronomical centre, later became a monsoon palace.
Pratap Memorial (Moti Magri): An impressive bronze statue of Maharana Pratap stands at the top of Moti Magri overlooking Fateh Sagar.
