Bharatanatyam:
The most well known, classical dance which has its origin from Tamil Nadu in South India. This dance is also performed in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The symbolism of the dance of Lord Shiva in the form of Nataraja is represented by the attitude called Ananda Tandavam also known as the cosmic dancer.
Kuchupudi:
It is a classical Indian dance which has its origin from Andra Pradesh, a state in South India. This dance form was earlier performed by the Kuchupudi Brahmins who lived in Andra Pradesh. The performance usually begins with some stage rites and later the characters appear one after the other to introduce themselves with a song and dance. The dance is accompanied along with the song and carnatic music. The ornaments used by the performers are unique as they are made out of light weight wood called Boorugu.
Mohiniattam
It is a traditional south Indian dance form from Kerala. It is meant to be a graceful dance performed as a solo recital by women. The word Mohiniattam literally means ‘dance of the enchantress’. This dance form has influence of Bharatanatyam and Kathakali – famous south Indian dances. The dance involves swaying of broad hip and the gentle movement of the body.

Kathakali
This is one of the famous and well known dance forms of Kerala in south India. The performers enact a dram in the form of dance. One of the most important and interesting aspect in Kathakali is the elaborate make up that is used by the dancers. The dance starts in the dusk and goes on through the night. The men also portray women in this dance form.
